Matting can be essential in framing to preserve artwork on paper by keeping the glass off the surface of the paper providing a small air space that will not let moisture form preventing mold and ‘sticking’.
In addition, matting adds visual relief and ‘breathing’ space between the image and the frame and well-chosen mats can enhance your art by highlighting desired colors, textures and patterns within the art. This can often be accomplished with the use of beautiful custom fabrics wrapped around a plain mat board and custom French Mats. Fabrics commonly used to wrap mat boards include linen, silk and suede. Also available for this purpose are conservation quality mats that have the fabrics, textures or patterns applied or printed directly onto the mat board.
Rag Mat boards are recommended for valuable original works of art, rare and antique documents and items of historical importance.
There are limitless possibilities that you and your Design Consultant can create to best show off the piece that you are framing.
